The trick is to remember that once you have started on this new path, the further you go down this road, the easier it becomes and eventually it will be second nature to you. Most changes in ones life happen in three increments:
- The first phase takes about 30 days to start to focus your mind (and sometimes your body) in the new direction. This is possibly the hardest and slowest part of the beginning of the new you, but it is singularly the most important step, so believe in yourself and make a concerted effort to have a happier and most positive you.
- The second phase also lasts about 30 days. In this period the changes that you have made will become more apparent to you and you will start to see and feel the difference in yourself. Other people will also take notice of the new you and this will spur you on. This can be a little difficult, especially if you are on a new fitness regime. Perseverance is the name of the game now, so stick to it – the rewards are not too far off.
- The last phase is the nicest part of your journey and by now you will be feeling more confident and in control of your life. A lot of your old habits will now have been forgotten and you will sometimes wonder why you did not do this earlier in your life. Decision making, energy and clarity of thought will now be a norm and you will be feeling at peace with everyone including yourself. Now is the time to step out boldly into your new found future. Well done, enjoy it.
From the very beginning of your change, always remember to not tackle too much change at once. Simple steps at the start and once you are feeling comfortable within yourself, you increase either the tempo or number of changes you feel happy in trying.
Here is comment on Chapter 2 that my good friend, Warren Arnold Hill made and I am sure that he would not mind me reproducing it here.
How do you eat an elephant? The answer is one bite a time. Whilst I do not condone that eating of an elephant, I am sure that you will agree that it is a great way of getting the message across. At first it seems a big task and yet when you break it down, it really is quite simple.
Always live your life and keep doing the things that bring you joy because happiness is a very powerful immune booster and this will help you on your journey.
Now, should we return to the story and see where this fits in? At the time I was on the hill and prior to my capture, although I was in a serious amount of pain, I know that I had to make a plan and quickly. I also knew that my leg was more of a mess that I originally thought. My immediate plan was to get some clothes to replace mine, which had been torn and damaged. This would allow me to get back to my hotel, hopefully undetected, and make contact with the resistance people, who I felt sure would get me medical attention. You see, I was in the advanced party and had met some of them whilst doing our reconnaissance. That was my first goal and this could be followed by phase two, getting myself repaired and finally phase three, which would have been getting on board a yacht, ship or vessel of some kind that would have seen me making my escape. Sounds simple, however it was not to be.
And herein lies another bit of advice. Never give up, no matter how hard the situation ahead my seem. You see, often the other choice is not an option at all.
There are many self help books, programmes, DVD’s, etc., that are available and you can choose the one that you feel comfortable with. The list is endless. Painting, sketching, sewing, gardening, DIY, learning to play a musical instrument. My wife does calligraphy and this not only gives her enjoyment, but others too. This is not a race and should be an enjoyable experience. By remembering the simple but good things in everyday life, like the blue sky, the song of a bird, sunshine, the smile of a stranger, along with the sensations of love, warmth, and old happy memories, are always a good tonic.
So, do not take yourself too seriously, just enjoy.
Stay safe and happy.
