Aubrey Brooks is a motivational speaker, life skills coach and team builder who has gained a unique set of perspectives on life through his many personal adventures. From his beginnings in Rhodesia (modern day Zimbabwe), to today,
there aren’t many things that Aubrey has not done.
A printer by trade, his military career began with the Rhodesian Army and ended with him serving in the Special Forces units, the Selous Scouts and Grey Scouts. During this time he gained his Private Pilots Licence.
In 1981, Aubrey, along with 44 others, arrived in the Seychelles International Airport in what was to become an attempted coup d’état. On discovery of a weapon in one of the passengers luggage, a gun battle ensued during which time Aubrey received a gun shot wound to the back of his leg. Captured with four others, Aubrey received regular physical abuse and constant death threats at the hands of his captors whilst spending 9 months in solitary confinement.
In July 1982, Aubrey was sentenced to death for treason and remained imprisoned until a full presidential pardon in 1983. Whilst in prison, Aubrey began his search for a better understanding to the meaning of life, which has led him to see the world in a way that others perhaps do not.
Those revelations and insights that Aubrey gained whilst imprisoned on death row have transported him down a path of religious and spiritual betterment, becoming a mediator and studying practical philosophy. This has brought him to his current understanding of the universe that we live in and how we can and must shape our own futures.
Using this understand and knowledge has opened up some incredible opportunities for Aubrey.
He has raced cars, motorcycles, powerboats and ocean going yachts.
He has been a champion for both motor and water sports in South Africa and further a field, where he project managed major sporting events, such as the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and A1 Grand Prix, both for the City of Durban and the FIA Formula E series Malaysian and London E-Prix rounds.
Aubrey and his family continue to be involved in motor sports, as marshals for the Isle of Man TT, Southern 100 and local rallying events.
Voluntary work is very close to Aubrey’s heart where he has trained and managed the Rhodesian Paralympics Team and managed the South African Fireball World Championship Team. He has also been a sports director for the City of Durban.
On the Isle of Man he was a member of the working group of the Royal British Legion 90th Celebration Year. He continues to be an active member of the British Legion, trustee of ‘Hero’s on the Water’ and committee member for the annual Armed Forces Day.
Aubrey has also been involved with the Bobby Moore Charity Golf Day for the last 11 years, where they have managed to raise over £300,000 of much needed funding for the bowel cancer charity.
