This is the first of my posts on this new blog and I do hope that some of you may find it helpful.
The world as we know it has gone and a new order is coming towards us. Some may find this disturbing, scary, frightening, etc. Some will be in a very uncomfortable state. You see the fear of the unknown is possibly the worst kind of fear one can ever imagine. For some, it will be like going into a place where they have never been before.
What will I find there?
What about the future?
How will if affect me and my family?
What about my work?
When will this be over and what will the future be?
This fear can be as bad as the pandemic that we are now enveloped in and if we are not careful it can also have a devastating effect on our lives and those around us.
The first line of defense, when it comes to health, is our emotional and energetic immune system. When these are weakened, we naturally before more susceptible to physical illness, and we become frightened. Fear weakens these systems by making us believe that we’ve lost control and that our fate lies in the hands of outside forces. Suddenly we lose connection to our inner wisdom and we’re convinced that we need to stay home, remain glued to the news, listen to a variety of experts, and stock up on survival supplies.
I can speak about fear of the unknown, especially from the many, many, very real experiences that I have had to face during my lifetime and the story starts when I was involved in the Seychelles Coup attempt in 1981. By the time the attempt failed, I had been shot, had a gun battle and hid out on a hillside whilst being pursued by about 40 soldiers. I was eventually captured, severely beaten, then had to face a period of 9 months in solitary confinement. This was followed by a mutiny in our prison where there was a two day battle and this all culminated in a very long and protracted trial, with me being found guilty of high treason and then being sentenced to death.
Happily for me and my family, it was to end with me getting a full presidential pardon and with us being reunited once again. This all took place between 1981 and 1983. It is through these experiences that I can draw some parallels and hopefully show you how you can and must face this virus head on.
The media is wall to wall, 24/7, story after story, news about Coronavirus. Case numbers rising, test kits in high demand. As I watch this happening, I can see that this is all adding to the fear factor.
Speaking from experience, I can tell you that belief, perseverance and the patience to changing certain aspects of your life, can and will get you through it.
There are a number of things you can do and I believe that we have been given a huge opportunity to re-look at ourselves and to make new choices for our future. Let us make the most of this opportunity. I strongly recommend you keep abreast of the news, perhaps once or twice a day. Do not remain glued to the television or radio news all day. This will cause you to fell depressed and this will fill you with fear.
My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that have lost loved ones.
I am a strongly of the belief that when we come out of this situation, the world will be a better place and that many of the older values that have long been forgotten like, understanding, tolerance, compassion, forgiveness, love, etc., will return.
Stay safe and happy.
