We are into the third month of the shutdown and as we are seeing restrictions being lifted, it is my hope that many of you have taken this wonderful opportunity to either look back and reflect on your life or you have had a change in direction as to where you would like to be. I have been doing these blog posts in the hope that it would show you that no matter how bad your circumstances may be, that there is always a way out and that you will be back in a better place.

I have taken you back to a place that I was in, after being captured during a failed coup d’état attempt on the Seychelles in 1981. I have shared with you some of the coping mechanisms I used to get by and I really hope you may have found some of these useful.

We on the Isle of Man are very fortunate that because of the size of our tiny island and the fact that islanders have adhered to the government regulations with a complete commitment, on Monday many of the regulations are being lifted and the start of a return to normality on the island begins. Now more than ever it is important not to be complacent, as this could lead to another lock down. I am convinced that the world will be a far better place than before, here sadly, on another note, one can only look on in horror at what is happening around the world with all the rioting, tearing down of statues and complete lawlessness. This does detract from what the world is doing collectively and the wonderful opportunities that looked likely on the horizon. However, this too shall pass. So do not get sucked into this downward spiral of violence and anarchy. Stay well clear of it all and do not let it bring you down. Please know that it will run it’s course and hopefully those perpetrators will be brought to justice and that they will receive their just deserts.

So I urge you to focus on yourself, your family and loved ones. Keep your eyes looking forward to a bright future, with a new purpose and determination to see it through and to conquer your fears. Remember that it is never too late to make any adjustments or alternations to your lifestyle, mentally, physically and spiritually.

Before I was captured in the Seychelles, I had already lived a wonderful and fulfilled life. Many thought that it would be the end for me. Not so. That period of my life, although it was not a walk in the park with the uncertainty of the death penalty, beatings and near death experiences, I did come out much stronger and with a new understanding about life itself and how important people, family, friends and loved ones are. My journey has been wonderful and I have had the privilege of meeting many, many outstanding people from all walks of life. Heads of state, outstanding achievers, in fact a very broad spectrum of individuals and I do thank each and everyone of them and you for all allowing me to be part of your lives.

It is my intention to now republish my book, Death Row in Paradise and pen another one soon, called “A Life Well Lived”. I am going to take my seminars on a tour and hope to be able to share my experiences with a much wider audience. I do hope that our paths will cross and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Stay safe and happy.
